Carpinteria, California - June 7, 2004 - NuSil Technology, a leading formulator and manufacturer of silicone compounds for healthcare, aerospace, electronics, and photonics, recently donated silicone materials to the Delancey Street Foundation, one of the world’s most successful rehabilitation programs for criminal offenders.
The Delancey Street Foundation, formed in San Francisco during the 1970’s as a criminal rehabilitation and vocational training center, has become one of the best rehabilitation centers in the world today. Using the philosophy of “extended family,” co-founder Dr. Mimi Silbert dedicates her life to keeping the Delancey Street Foundation open and growing. Having expanded to four other sister projects, located in New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Los Angeles, the Delancey Street Foundation continues to turn hard-core criminals into upstanding citizens.
NuSil Technology donated silicone adhesives valued at $21,600 to the Delancey Street Foundation. The participants of Delancey Street will use this silicone adhesive as a window sealant during their most recent renovations to the Los Angeles rehabilitation center. “The Delancey Street Foundation is a wonderful organization, with a great purpose,” says Brian Nash, VP of Marketing and Sales. “We are grateful that we could help their foundation.”
Participants at the Los Angeles branch of Delancey Street are all ex-convicts. Over 85% have used heroin for more than 10 years, 24% are women, half are minorities and almost all are illiterate. These participants work at one of the Delancey Street businesses in exchange for room and board at the center. These businesses include a moving company, a catering company, and an advertising specialties company. Through this center the participants are prepared for the real world by working 8am-5pm Monday-Saturday, learning appropriate social behavior, earning their high school diploma, and learning at least three job skills. The Delancey Foundation proves to benefit these individuals and society as a whole.
