Silicone Materials Series

Troubleshooting Silicone Materials Series:
Next-Generation Designs

We concluded the Designer Series in the last edition of Industry InSight, so our focus now shifts to troubleshooting specific problems.

Silicone materials can be challenging to use. We've mentioned in the past that curable silicone systems are formulated with specific amounts of reactive species, catalysts, crosslinkers, polymers and inhibitors. The keys to understanding and resolving problems using silicone materials require an understanding and appreciation for each component and how it functions.

This new series will address three common problem areas: lack of curing (inhibition), bubbling, and within-lot variable physical properties. Look for the next edition of InSight, where we will discuss inhibition. In addition, we encourage you to submit your own troubleshooting questions to silicone@nusil.com. We will answer these questions online at www.nusil.com.

The new, translucent-color palette meets USP and ISO biological testing requirements, while offering new, off-the-shelf pigmenting options for the healthcare industry. In addition, NuSil named Univar USA as its exclusive distributor for Nusil's pharmaceutical Simethicone product line throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico. Univar Pharma Ingredients is North America's premier distributor in the pharmaceutical industry.

On the international front, NuSil made its formal expansion into the European cosmetics-formulation industry by exhibiting at the In Cosmetics event in Paris, France, in April. NuSil launched into the U.S. cosmetics raw materials market less than a year ago and its sole focus in this industry will be custom product development.
